Coach Donnie Maib is in his 31st year as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. He began his coaching career at the University of Colorado in 1994 where he worked with E. J. “Doc” Kreis until 1997. Coach Maib trained all varsity teams while at Colorado, where he helped many athletes obtain All-Conference as well as All-American accolades.

From 1998 until the present, Coach Maib has been at the University of Texas, where he is currently the Head Coach for Athletic Performance (Olympic Sports). As a director at Texas, Coach Maib oversees and manages 8 other performance staff and oversees 4 weight rooms. In his tenure at Texas, Coach Maib has worked with a variety of sports including Football, Women’s Track, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Tennis, and Women’s Volleyball.

Most recently, Volleyball won the 2022 and 2023 National Championship and Men’s Tennis won the 2019 National Championship. Volleyball has been Big XII conference championships in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2006, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 the Men’s Tennis team won the Big XII conference championship. In 2005, with Coach Maib’s assistance, the University of Texas football team won the National Championship in the Rose Bowl. Additionally, under his direct supervision, Women’s Track won National Championships in both their indoor and outdoor seasons in 1999. Coach Maib has had the privilege of coaching numerous Olympians, All-Conference, as well as All-American athletes, at the University of Texas. In football alone, while working alongside Coach Madden and Coach Mack Brown, there have been over 30 players drafted into the NFL in the past during his coaching era.

Coach Maib holds a 1st degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and has published a book and video entitled Speed-Strength Training for Martial Artists. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Donnie started the 1st Athletic Performance Coaches Clinic for the University of Texas Athletics that brings in some of the most elite Coaches in the country to present on current topics and trends in the strength and conditioning industry. In 2020, Coach Maib launched The Team Behind the Team podcast. It is a unique and first of its kind collegiate athletics show that focuses on bringing world class experts and education on the topics of athletic performance, sports medicine, performance nutrition, sports science and mental health and wellness. Most recently, Coach Maib published two books on leadership: “The Secret Sauce of Leadership” (published November 2023) and “The Two Buckets of Leadership” (published November 2024). These are uniquely written books that use stories and metaphors from sports, coaching, and life to help teach what it takes to be a leader. Within each book you will glean principles, practical skills, and traits, on how to stand out and move from ordinary to extraordinary as a leader.

Coach Maib played football at Gallatin Senior High School where he earned All-State, All-Decade, and All-American Honors. He went on to earn a full scholarship at the University of Georgia where he lettered and started for 3 years at defensive tackle. Donnie has been married 28 years to his wonderful wife Karen, and they have four beautiful girls Isabel, Anna, Evelyn, and Olivia.
